Project EMAR Movement Workshop at the University of Washington
Project EMAR is exploring robot greetings and goodbyes. Come participate in this movement workshop exploring human-robot interactions. No experience in robotics necessary.
This workshop will be co-led by Project EMAR’s Elin Bjorling and Amy LaViers, a Certified Movement Analyst and roboticist from the Robotics, Automation, and Dance (RAD) Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Participants will learn about Laban/Bartenieff Movement Studies, a set of concepts, terms, and principles utilized by many dancers and actors. The goal of this session will be to attune participants to their own embodied experience, centered around the lens of greeting and goodbye. How do you greet another person? At what distance does it begin and end? When does it involve physical touch? When does this greeting work well and engender a positive relationship? When can it fail? How does context affect or prompt the greeting? How do/should the answers of these questions change when interacting with machines?
